My philosophy

Every person carries a unique tapestry of stories; some shared, some kept close to the heart. Entering therapy is a profound act of self-listening. It’s an opportunity to give voice to your life narratives and liberate yourself from the hidden hands that hold you back—whether they’re placed on your shoulders, silence your voice, or hinder your steps forward. In this journey of self-discovery, you will find the strength to move toward a more fulfilling and empowered life.

How We Can Connect:

1. Free Discovery Call

I offer a free 20-minute discovery call to discuss your expectations for therapy. During this conversation, we’ll explore the main challenges you’re facing and how I can best support you. This initial consultation will help us determine the most suitable therapy package for your needs. I offer various packages in my services, which I will explain in more detail during our call.

2. Agreement and Commitment to Therapy

Therapy is a collaborative journey that requires mutual commitment. Before we begin, we’ll establish a clear agreement outlining our responsibilities, confidentiality, and the therapeutic goals we aim to achieve. Your commitment to this process is vital for meaningful progress and transformation. Together, we’ll create a supportive and structured environment to foster your growth and well-being.

3. Payment Policies and Cancellation

Understanding our payment policies and cancellation terms is important for a smooth therapeutic experience. Payment is expected before the time of your session unless otherwise arranged. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a cancellation fee. This policy ensures that we respect each other’s time and maintain a consistent schedule for your therapy.

Here are some common issues addressed
in therapy

1.

Anxiety, Stress and Depression

Life’s demands can often lead to overwhelming anxiety and stress. In therapy, we explore the root causes of these feelings and develop coping strategies to manage them effectively. Whether it’s generalized anxiety, social anxiety, or stress from work or personal life, therapy provides a safe space to understand and alleviate these pressures.

Depression can affect every aspect of your life, from your motivation to your relationships. Through therapy, we work to uncover the underlying causes of depression and develop personalized treatment plans. This journey includes exploring thought patterns, behaviours, and lifestyle changes that can help you regain a sense of hope and purpose.

2.

Relationship Issues

Relationships are central to our well-being, but they can also be a source of significant stress and conflict. Therapy can help you navigate relationship challenges, whether they involve family, friends, or romantic partners. We work on improving communication, understanding, and connection to foster healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

3.

Trauma and Grief

Past traumas and current grief can have a lasting impact on your mental and emotional health. In therapy, we create a supportive environment to process these experiences safely. Techniques such as externalization in narrative approach, and other trauma-informed approaches can help you heal and move forward from these painful memories.

4.

Body image and fatness

Struggles with body image and feelings about fatness can profoundly affect self-esteem and overall well-being. In therapy, we work to challenge societal standards and internalized beliefs that contribute to negative body image. Our sessions focus on fostering self-acceptance, developing a healthier relationship with your body, and addressing any associated disordered eating behaviours. Together, we’ll work towards a more positive and compassionate view of yourself.

May Ngo, Cambodian-Australian

I can't recommend Somayeh highly enough. As a therapist, she provides a warm listening ear and unconditional acceptance. She also draws on her extensive knowledge and expertise to provide practical everyday suggestions that I have found really helpful. Most of all, she has given me a perspective and framework that is truly revolutionary, especially for us as women: that what we desire is valid, that we can shake off the 'invisible hands' that hold us back and aim towards greater consciousness and growth; and if we all worked on this our society could actually change for the better.

Diana, UK, 61

I have known Somayeh for a little over two years now. I initially knew her in her capacity as a psychotherapist. We worked together quite successfully on an issue I brought to her. She has a wonderful manner and is a great listener. What impressed me was that she is not hidebound by fashionable methods and concepts. Perhaps it is the fact that she is both inside and outside European psychotherapy. I also discussed at some length her experience as a student on the Gender Studies department of Charles University. I have an interest and some knowledge of the subject and I hope the discussions helped in some way with her defence of her thesis. The thesis used a technique of qualitative information gathering which is often overlooked and takes a great deal of sensitivity to produce successfully. In recent months my friend Somayeh has focused on her literary talents. I knew she was a published author with three novels to her name but it is only with her recent venture that she is playing with language and expression by writing in English. I love her enthusiasm as much as her audacity. I value our friendship as she enriches my life.
